This is a shelf course. A shelf course comprises a number of modules related to this broad area of study. Each module is a separate semester of study in this area and is offered in rotation. You can study TWO modules but you cannot study the same module twice.

Module: “Narrative”
This module examines selected poems, short stories and novels, and introduces ways of interpreting them in the light of structuralist and post-structuralist
narrative theory.
Module: “Contemporary Critical and Cultural Theory”(Semester 1, 2011)
This module introduces students to some central texts and concepts in critical and cultural theory as these bear on the study of literary analysis. It examines a range of related issues including how the very assumptions of language, communication and meaning were questioned in twentieth-century thought; the re-conception of self and identity; and theories of subject/object relations as they are produced by the political structures of modernity.
