Description

Defining enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and enhanced gas recovery (EGR). Reasons for EOR/EGR. Volumetric and areal sweep efficiency. Displacement efficiency. Screening and selection of EOR methods. Controlling mobility at the field-scale, in layered porous media, by polymer flooding and by water-alternating-gas (WAG) injection / foam processes. Decreasing residual oil saturation and changing wettability. Phase behaviour, interfacial tension (IFT), and gas injection processes. Increasing oil mobility by thermal methods of cyclic steam stimulation, steamdrive, and in-situ combustion. Steam-assisted gravity drainage method. EOR and CO2 sequestration: Multicontact gas injection processes. EGR and CO2 sequestration: Miscible displacement of CH4 by CO2 in depleted gas reservoirs. Enhanced coalbed methane recovery (ECBM) and CO2 sequestration: Displacing CH4 in coal seams by CO2. Screening and selection of potential reservoirs for CO2 sequestration. Design of a teamwork project.
