Description PLEASE NOTE: This course has had a change of code - up to and including 2009 it was PHPH2101.
This course introduces fundamental physiological principles, from basic cellular function in terms of chemical and physical principles to the operation and interaction of body systems. The ares of physiology covered in this unit are excitable tissues, the cardiovascular system, blood and neuroscience. The unit includes a substantial series of practical class experiments on these different areas of physiology. This subject is taken by students enrolled in any of the Physiology programs. Note: Students intending to major in Physiology or Pharmacology should note that prerequisites can only be waived at the discretion of the Head of Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. Biochemistry is highly recommended for a major in Physiology and essential for a major in Pharmacology. |
