Description Examines the contemporary culture of Greece and Cyprus within its historical context. Considers the meaning of events such as the fall of the Byzantine Empire in 1453, the effects of western rule and Ottoman domination, the influence of the European Renaissance and Enlightenment, the movement for independence, the Asia Minor catastrophe, the Nazi and Fascist occupation and the military dictatorship of 1967-74.
Note: This course is compulsory for students who wish to major in Modern Greek. Taught in English. |
