Description

Subject Area: Chinese Studies

In the first part of the course, China’s local business systems will be analysed in terms of evolving market structures, the functioning of the socialist state, its legal and financial infrastructure and its integration in the global economy. The focus of this part will be on the emerging dynamic relationship between the state and China’s market economy.
The second part of the course will concentrate on the different types of enterprises (private, state-owned and foreign invested) that have emerged during China’s economic reforms and examine how their different backgrounds influence their corporate governance and their business operations.
The third part of the course will cover operational management issues, such as R&D, production, marketing, logistics and human resources management. This part will make use of the case study research done by students.
