Subject Area: Asian Studies

An introduction to key themes concerning Asia's economies; their socio-cultural underpinnings; their historic performance; their similarities and dissimilarities; and their linkages with developed-world economies. The course covers the interplay between state and society as well as the entrepreneurial settings across Asia, including an analysis of financial-sector reform, foreign trade and globalisation. Particular emphasis will be placed on exploring differences between the Japanese, Southeast Asian, Chinese and Indian growth models.
