This course introduces students to the work of major and adventurous women writers from the early modern period (1600) to the present, drawing on the genres of novel, short story, poetry and drama.
A wide range of issues will be explored, including formal innovation, lines of influence and tradition in women's writing, identity formation and the interaction of gender, race and class within the practices of writing and reading.
