Development in Practice - SOCA3211 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description Investigates the parameters of contemporary development and the ways they affect our lives and the lives of others. Takes a historical approach to examine how the 'development project' arose out of the decline of colonialism and the rise of the Cold War, and how this 'project' was eventually supplanted by a quite different set of processes. Covers various topical areas including population pressures, urbanisation, the world food crisis, women and the international division of labour, foreign aid and NGOs, sustainable development, and the ethics of intervention.
