Americanisation: Global Politics & Culture - POLS2032 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description Since 9/11 arguments about the 'American empire' and Americanisation have revived. Some see Americanisation as a benefit that accompanies globalisation, while others see it as a deliberate threat to the diversity and integrity of national cultures. Examines such claims with discussions of modernisation and 'Western influence'. The focus is primarily on Australia, but other countries are discussed, and on the fields of political parties and campaigning techniques; political language and culture; the internet; the state, economy and business; and urban development. However, students are encouraged to research other countries and other fields of interest.
