Description Objectives: To develop an understanding of the structure and function of the human visual system, in adults and during development.
Brief Curriculum: The structure and function of the visual pathway from the optic nerve to visual areas of the cerebral cortex. Basic embryology, and the normal and abnormal development of the visual pathway, from eye to brain. The assessment of visual function using electrophysiological techniques. The assessment of visual function in non-verbal patients, using psychophysical techniques. The neural basis of binocular vision: the way in which the human visual system assesses relative depth of objects within the visual scene.
