Description Objectives: An analysis of the primary care optometric consultation. The development of good communication skills. Appreciation of the breadth of presentation of normal vision and ocular status. Acquisition of technical skills to carry out an evaluation of the health of the ocular and visual system and of refractive status with a view to prescribing spectacles for the uncomplicated patient.
Brief Curriculum: Ocular health: history and symptoms, introduction to diagnostic drugs, slit lamp biomicroscopy, tonometry, direct ophthalmoscopy, external eye examination. Ametropia: aetiology and management of refractive errors, objective and subjective refraction, cycloplegic refraction and prescribing lenses, special populations.
