Description

Introduces students to the formation of Islam as a world religion, the process of its spread to East Asia and South-East Asia, and its assimilation in contemporary East Asian and South-East Asian cultures with a focus on China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Explores the notion of political Islam and its re-emergence in recent years. Other topics include radicalism, women in Islam, and jihad.
