Description

Introduces students to some of the key concepts, thinkers, and debates in contemporary political theory. The course begins with the perennial questions of the basis of political authority and the obligation on individuals to obey such authority. It then considers in turn the key ideas of social justice, liberty, equality, and democracy. Finally, it examines some of the main contemporary debates over liberalism, rights and justice, including: communitarianism, feminism, nationalism, and multiculturalism.
