Description Ecological and Bio-climatic Design Fundamentals. This subject introduces students to theories and practical knowledge in ecological and bioclimatic design. Objectives are to develop a basic level of ecological literacy and capacity for life-cycle and systems thinking in architectural design; to introduce students to the history of such ideas in architecture; to use these modes of thinking to develop a relational systems view of people and nature mediated by architecture; and engage with our industrial and natural life-support systems seeking symbiosis and resilience. Within this framing - understand how to perceive human comfort and experience using climatic design; the history of such ideas in architecture; and the ability to analyse site and climate to design the experience of place using sun, temperature, wind, human metabolism and perception. Manual and digital skills in representing and communicating these design intentions and analysis will be developed through focussed design projects.
