Description In this course students will be exposed to a number of topics in rotorcraft engineering. The course begins by building a linearised model of helicopter dynamics and proceeds to derive useful conclusions regarding the stability augmentation and flight control system design. Students will be introduced to rotorcraft flight test engineering, including the use of dimensional analysis to reduce data and standardise test results. The design regulations pertaining to helicopter design will be overviewed with particular emphasis on design for crash worthiness. Design considerations relating to rotor induced vibration, ground resonance and fatigue safe life will also be discussed.
