Description Aims to introduce new students to the profession and practice of civil engineering by providing an historical and technical perspective of the impact of civil engineering and building on society, trade, commerce and infrastructure development through the ages. The course details the development of the various branches of the profession and provides a background to contemporary issues such as professional responsibilities and ethics, sustainable development and environmental management, workplace democracy and occupational health and safety. The course incorporates a field trip and construction experience during the May recess.
