Description


Aims to provide students with a knowledge of the norms and structure of the Spanish language and its use. Focuses on the areas of Spanish phonology, morphology, grammar, pragmatics and semantics.

Note: The language of instruction is Spanish. It will be very helpful for students wishing to pursue the language to translator level.

Learning Outcomes


Upon completion of the course, students should gain:
  • Basic knowledge of the structure of the Spanish language and be able to comprehend and describe the complexity of the Spanish language structure
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply orthographic norms and differentiate immediate constituents in sentences
  • An ability to undertake a basic morphological and syntactic analysis of Spanish sentences
  • Knowledge of the origin of the lexical component of Spanish
  • An ability to differentiate origin and meaning of words in Spanish
  • An understanding of and ability to use generic vocabulary related to phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics in Spanish.
