Description

One of the features that distinguishes humans from other animals is their use of a sophisticated symbolic system for communication - namely, language. This course will examine how humans cognitively represent their language system in order to successfully produce and comprehend spoken and written words. All levels of language will be considered ranging from the smallest sounds up to full discourse within context. Evidence obtained from language dysfunctions and from investigations of language developent will also be considered.
