Description Examines the relationship between social movements and the policy process in contemporary Australia. Social movements studied will include the women's movement, the environment movement, the lesbian and gay rights movement, the anti-capitalist movement, and the men's rights movement. Concepts such as opportunities and constraints, institutionalisation and cooption will be explored within a framework of social movement theory that asks whether social movements can still be considered legitimate actors in the policy process.
