Description

Analyses and tests a number of contemporary theoretical approaches to the cinema.

Note: Excluded FILM2001.

Learning Outcomes

  • To gain an understanding of key concepts and debates in film theory and an understanding of the history of the discipline
  • To be able to analyse some of the key ways that meaning is constructed in film
  • To broaden one's knowledge of the history of film.

Assessment

  • Short paper - 30%
  • Class presentation - 20%
  • Essay - 40%
  • Tutorial participation - 10%
