Description

Examines institutional and classroom factors related to language learning and teaching. Includes bilingual education and literacy, the history of language teaching methodology, and current trends in language teaching. Includes an investigation of how the elements of language (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation) and the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) can be taught.


Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students should develop an understanding of:
  • The issues related to literacy in first and subsequent languages
  • The second/foreign language teaching and learning process in relation to knowledge and skills
  • Initial, practical second/foreign language teaching skills with a focus on management of the learning context, lesson planning and evaluation.

  • Participation and tutorial presentation/microteaching - 30%
  • Assignment 1 - 25%
  • Class test - 20%
  • Assignment 2 - 25%
