Description
Examines Korean culture and society from early times to present. Key themes include social and cultural change; gender; evolution of political systems; religion and philosophical thought; identity; and economic change.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the importance of Korea's place in the world and specifically, East Asia
- Ability to discuss the major intellectual and cultural trends that have defined Korea and distinguished it from China and Japan
- Ability to assess critically claims in nationalist historiography and understand the reasons for such claims.
