Description
Investigates the logic of modern Japanese grammar. Explores the grammatical domains whereby logic is constructed in spoken and written Japanese using a detailed map of the domains of enquiry.
Note: Instruction will be given mainly in Japanese with some English.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand and analyse how macro phenomena of the world are constructed logically in the grammar of Japanese, in particular, how the flow of events is construed as a series in the development of text
- Understand systematically how clauses are linked to one another by means of some kind of logico-semantic relation to form clause complexes
- Consolidate the understanding of the grammar of human experiences and interactions
- Develop the skills to work on, or with reference to, a large volume of natural Japanese language text and to view the language grammatically in a systematic way
- Identify one's areas of weakness in grammar for improvement.
