Description

An integrated program for beginners, which combines listening, speaking, reading and writing. Speaking and listening skills are emphasised through communicative activities in class. Students will learn some 750 vocabulary items, and will be able to communicate in practical situations across a wide range of topics.

Note: Excluded 2 or 3 Unit HSC Indonesian or equivalent or native speakers of Indonesian and Malay.


Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students should:
  • Have developed 'Asia-literacy'
  • Have had basic communicative competence in the Indonesian language (Level 1+ of the Australian Second Language Proficiency Rating or ASLPR Scale)
  • Have gained basis for further Indonesian language study
  • Have developed an appreciation of the Australian-Indonesian context within which language skills will be used
  • Have developed empathy with Indonesian people, their culture and aspirations.

  • Classwork/assignments - 45%
  • Speaking test 1 - 20%
  • Speaking test 2 - 25%
  • Participation - 10%
