Description

An introduction to Greek mythology: to the creation myths, the stories of the gods and their interaction with humans, and to some of the great cycles - Oedipus, the Trojan War, Orpheus. Includes reference to contemporary works incorporating new versions of the stories, especially films.


Learning Outcomes

This course will enable students to:
  • Have an understanding of social, ethical and cultural context
  • Think critically and develop and deploy rational thought
  • Develop an ability to communicate knowledge intelligibly and effectively in written and oral form
  • Be able to evaluate arguments and information.

Assessment

  • Essay 1 (1600-1800 words) - 30%
  • Essay 2 (1600-1800 words) - 30%
  • Participation - 20%
  • End of session test - 20%
