Description

Includes three coursework components and a thesis of approximately 10,000 - 15,000 words. The thesis involves individual research work undertaken with direction from a supervisor. The thesis constitutes 60% of the final honours mark and the coursework components constitute 40% of the final honours mark.

Note: Intending Honours students are advised to consult the School about their program of study.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students should gain:
  • An ability to work independently

  • An ability to devise and implement a research program
  • Knowledge of research methods
  • An ability to critically evaluate published research
  • An ability to clearly communicate research orally and in written form
  • An understanding and appreciation of ethical issues related to research.

Assessment

  • Research thesis - 60%
  • Participation at school research seminars - Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory
  • Presentation of research at a school research seminar - Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory
