Description

Teaching experience consists of 40 days experience in a New South Wales secondary school. Students observe lessons conducted by experienced teachers and plan and deliver lessons for a number of classes, under the direction of supervising teachers. Students also become familiar with organisational aspects of a high school and activities other than those related to subject delivery, for example, school policies and general supervision of school students.

Note: This course is a formal requirement of the BA(Dance)BEd program.

Learning Outcomes

Students who complete this course successfully should be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts, structure and pedagogical practices pertinent to the study of dance as an art form Years 7-12
  • Demonstrate the capacity to plan and implement coherent lessons (and sequences) that engage students and address the learning outcomes in the Years 7-12 Dance Syllabus Documents
  • Demonstrate the capacity to communicate effectively with their students through clear directions about learning, questioning techniques, listening to students and engaging them in classroom discussions
  • Demonstrate the capacity to manage classroom activities smoothly and efficiently, provide a positive learning environment, manage student behaviour and to promote student responsibility for learning
  • Demonstrate the capacity to reflect critically and improve teaching practice
  • Demonstrate the capacity to contribute to a professional community.
