Description

Offers an overview of contemporary Chinese literature from 1949 to the present. Covers different genres such as short stories, prose and poetry as well as literary criticism.


Learning Outcomes

  • Be able to critically read texts such as Lu Xun and Gao Xingjian
  • Be able to interpret and analyse secondary literary sources
  • Develop research and presentation skills on a selected topic
  • Develop essay writing skills
  • Gain exposure to different written genres.

Assessment

  • Presentation - 15%
  • Essay outline - 5%
  • Essay (2500 words) - 35%
  • Participation - 10%
  • Test - 35%
