Description

This course focuses on the theoretical foundation of all the biological sciences -- the modern theory of evolution. The course will explore historical and philosophical aspects of evolutionary theory and the place of evolutionary biology in modern society in relation to non-scientific and pseudoscientific challenges. Most of the course will be devoted to contemporary research questions and approaches including: evolutionary genetics, life-history evolution, evolutionary ecology, measuring selection, experimental evolution. The application of evolutionary analysis to applied questions such as evolution during biological invasions, host-parasite coevolution and the evolution of antibiotic resistance will also be considered.
