Description This course will introduce students to some significant critical theories of the late twentieth century, and to associated notions of cultural and literary canonicity. We will consider a range of debates about the place and role of literary criticism such as structuralism and post-structuralism, feminism, new historicism, and ethics, through their application to a number of key cultural texts, including fiction and poetry from the Western literary tradition.
