Description

For students who have little or no knowledge of Spanish. Intended to give students a sound basis of spoken and written Spanish and to introduce them to the history and culture of Spain and Latin America. Five hours language and one hour civilisation lecture. All language teaching is in tutorial groups.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
  • Understand and use correctly the morphology of number and gender, agreement in tenses, present and future tenses, pronouns, reflexive verbs, demonstrative, possessive and indefinite adjectives
  • Recognise and use different ways of asking questions, expressions of origin, nationality, expressions of place, compositions and possession
  • Use the verb 'ser'
  • Use gerund with the verb 'estar'
  • Differentiate and use the formal and informal registers.
