Description

In exploring some of the major dimensions of Australian society, this introductory course analyses the institutional patterns from a range of sociological perspectives. Topics covered include: family and intimacy, youth and identity, poverty, unemployment, the influence of the media and the global context of Australian social life.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students should have:

A greater understanding of the differing forms of modernity that have developed in Australia and compared nation-states
Introductory experience in undertaking an interview for the purposes of sociological research
A broad understanding of the role of critical analysis in Sociology.

Research project - 30%
