Description This course is designed to foster students' insights into the social and political background that has affected, and continues to affect, the educational opportunities of Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia. Through lectures, discussions, seminars and visits by Aboriginal guest speakers, this subject will examine the following topics: Aboriginal Identity, Kinship, Law, Religious and Educational Systems and Land Rights. It will also explore European ethnocentricity, prejudice, stereotyping and racism. All topics will be illustrated by the works of both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists.
