Description The course aims to explore multiculturalism, encompassing personal and professional contexts. The terrain of multiculturalism is both historically and currently contested, variously impacting policy and practice. Through lectures and seminar experiences, students will analyse the way in which race, gender, class and ethnic consciousness is produced. This consciousness, and the various conceptions of multiculturalism are examined in relation to the personal and professional contexts in which students are engaged. The course provides the opportunity for students to increase their awareness of the cultural diversity of Australia and develop their sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of minority groups.
