Description Politics is not a science but is a discipline that relies on language and interpretation. Therefore, this course explores fundamental issues in the social sciences generally and 'political science' in particular, through examining recent issues such as propaganda and the war in Iraq; satire, taboo and cartoons about Islam; political satire, as another form of persuasive language; rightwing claims to absolute truth and objectivity against the cultural relativism they denounce in the left; the culture wars debate; and Howard and his focus on the individual and agency and his claim to liberalism.
