Description This course covers the principles and techniques for estimating the resources and for converting them to reserves, including:
Sampling methods, fundamental sampling error and other sampling errors Geological data modelling (block models, wireframes etc.) Spatial variability of volume/tonnage and grade Mining losses, dilution, bulk density, cut-off grades and head grades Estimation and resource model simulation Reporting of resources and reserves (JORC code) Grade control/mine-to-mill At the end of this course, the students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of: Sampling methodologies Broad principles of resource estimation and geostatistics (but not detailed methodology) The basis of preparation and reliability of resources and reserves The merits and drawbacks of various estimation methods and relevance to specific mineral deposit types Impact of geological uncertainty on risk Reporting of resources and reserves using the JORC code
