Description All Australian UNSW medicine students (ie: excluding International fee paying students) are required to complete at least four weeks of rural placement during their clinical years. In 2007 only, students will complete this requirement in Year 5. This rural experience is typically taken in Year 6 but has been changed in Year 5 in 2007 to allow the introduction of the Preparation for Internship term in Year 6. Students may elect to complete the 4 week rural experience in either the GP/Subspecialties course or in the Rural/Flexible term. Students who do not complete a 4 week rural GP attachment in GP/Subspecialties, will be required to complete a 4 week clinical attachment in a rural hospital in the Rural/Flexible term. The remaining 4 weeks will be in a medical or surgical clinical attachment in the student's principal teaching hospital (as per Year 4). Students who complete a 4 week rural GP attachment during the GP/Subspecialties course will complete 8 weeks of clinical attachments in their principal teaching hospital in the Rural/Flexible term.
Assessment: Satisfactory attendance and completion of supervisor assessment forms.
