Description

Examines the historical development of key institutions and practices of modern law, enforcement and punishment. Traces the evolution of crime and 'criminals', the legal code, police forces, transportation versus the prison, and other components of the criminal justice system from the end of the 18th century through to the present day, and the thinking behind these developments.
