Description

Examines the breakdown of Rome's Republican system of governance and the establishment of an imperial state, covering the period from 133 BCE to 235 CE. Explores the political events of the day as well as the social and cultural life of Rome and its empire. A central focus will be the relationship of different cultures to one another. Aims to explain how Rome helped to create a culturally diverse, yet culturally distinct, society and state in the ancient world.
