Description Hardware design and systems prototyping using field-programmable gate arrays. Emphasises laboratory experience in programming and interfacing with FPGAs. Acceleration of soft-core processors, design of custom accelerator blocks and configurable logic-based applications from areas such as telecommunications, signal processing, cryptography and biological sequencing. Techniques for designing and implementing configurable systems. CAD challenges posed by the area. Design validation, performance analysis and power consumption. Reconfigurable systems.
