Description This course will focus on aspects of space and air-transport engineering not covered in the discipline-based courses. Space engineering: launch to orbit, the three-body problem, orbit selection and prediction, inter-planetary space flight tracking, manoeuvring and rendezvous. Dynamics of space launchers and space vehicles. Reliability analysis of complex systems. Mission control and management. Airline engineering: introduction to aviation law and regulation. Aircraft evaluation, fleet planning and asset management. Through-life support including airframe and system maintenance, ground support and equipment. Reliability. Failure modes, effects and criticality analysis. Condition monitoring, non-destructive inspection and repair. Data acquisition and analysis.
