||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description Examines key issues in Latin(o) American cinema, including the construction of gender and sexuality, questions of race and ethnicity, the representation of border issues, migration, urban life, and youth culture. Focuses on films within the cultural and social contexts of their production, and in the light of current theories of film. Shows how these films stand in strong contrast to the traditional and often stereotypical image of Latin America and Hispanics fabricated by Hollywood.
Note/s: Taught in English. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable but not required. All readings are in English and all films are subtitled.
