Description

Considers the evolution of Greek music from ancient times to the present, including music in antiquity, Orthodox (Byzantine) church music, folksong, rebetika (the Greek "blues"), the national school of symphonic music, and popular composers from the 60s on, such as Theodorakis and Hadjidakis, with emphasis on their setttings of modern poetry. Considers the relation between music and society, processes of cultural continuity and change, and elements of diversity and unity within and between musical cultures.
