Description This course provides the basic introduction to the profession of mining engineering for all new students. Bearing this in mind, at the completion of this course a student should: appreciate the range of roles and responsibilities a mining engineer encounters in the workplace, and the broad range of career paths available; have a basic understanding of underground and open cut mining methods and an introductory appreciation of the importance and relevance of the science and other engineering disciplines to mining; be familiar with basic mine ventilation, explosives and blasting; understand and appreciate the importance of safety and risk management in the workplace; be confident in appreciating the history and current status of mining in Australia with a particular understanding of economic, social and environmental issues; be prepared for what you may encounter in your first industrial training period.
Note: Site visits and industry lectures are a requirement of this course and may involve additional personal expense. |
