Description Graphical data analysis. Review of probability, random variables and their properties. The normal and binomial distributions, the central limit theorem. Applications to statistical quality control. Theory of statistical inference including confidence intervals and hypothesis testing with applications to one and two sample problems based on the t- and F- test. Simple and multiple linear regression including data transformations to normality. Design and analysis of experiments, analysis of variance, introduction to factorial designs. Applications will be drawn primarily from the fields of mechanical and mining engineering and industrial design.
