Overview

The School of Aviation at UNSW consists of a core of permanent staff members, together with a large number of affiliated academics and aviation staff actively involved with delivering our degree programs and undertaking research. Our flying training is conducted at the Flying Operations Unit at Bankstown Airport. Also based within the School is the Transport and Road Safety (TARS) Research which is a research group dedicated to road and transport safety research.

We offer a selection of programs and services to serve the aviation industry. Degree programs range from the Bachelor of Aviation in Flying or Management, Graduate Diplomas to our Masters and Doctorate programs and are available in a range of different delivery modes. We also offer a dual program in Commerce and Aviation. Whether you want to be a pilot, airport or airline manager, or work in government (or perhaps you already are!) - we are sure that the School of Aviation has a program that suits you. If you are looking for a research or consulting partner, then we are sure that we are also able to provide a quality product that is world class.

The airborne and simulator flying training, along with the underpinning ground theory, is conducted at the School’s Flying Operations Unit (FOU) at Bankstown Airport. The FOU operates modern Diamond DA40 and Piper Seminole PA44 aeroplanes and advanced jet, turboprop and piston flight training devices. The FOU is approved under CASR 1998 Part 142 to deliver integrated CPL and multi-crew co-operation training allowing a reduced number of flying hours for the issue of the CPL and a seamless transition to airline employability.

For information on the programs of study offered by the School, please refer to the relevant discipline or program entries in this online Handbook or to the School's website. We look forward to welcoming you to UNSW.
