This dynamic and multidisciplinary School covers all aspects of public health and health systems. The School has major foci on health services and health systems, on preventing and managing major population health challenges (HIV/AIDS; alcohol, tobacco and drugs; injuries and violence; chronic disease) and on social justice, ethics and equity. The School has a developing emphasis on indigenous health and is committed to working locally, nationally and internationally. The School is associated with a range of research centres focusing on such areas as Culture and Health, Primary Care and Equity Research, Clinical Governance Research on Health Health Informatics, and has links with two national centres: National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre and the National HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research Centre. The School is committed to being one of the most dynamic, innovative and leading edge public health teaching and research institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. Research is multidisciplinary and draws on both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Research and teaching interface with one another. Partnerships with other groups are actively promoted. We have over 40 core academic and administrative staff, with hundreds of conjoint and adjunct staff who practice, teach and research in clinical schools, hospitals, research centres, private practice and community-based services throughout New South Wales. The School plays a key role in developing enhanced primary care systems in NSW and nationally and seeks strong interaction with communities and key area health services.
