Description

The study of laws involves the analysis of legal institutions, legal theories, principles and practice. It also examines the rights and duties of individuals, organisations and the government with respect to the law.

The Faculty of Law is committed to research and, in addition to the work of the Faculty members, has a strong cohort of faculty research students enrolled in the Research Programs which include PhD, SJD and LLM by Research.

The Faculty has particular research strengths in:
  • Business and commercial law
  • Constitutional law
  • Criminal law and justice
  • Evidence and civil procedure
  • Human rights and social justice
  • Indigenous law
  • Intellectual property
  • International and comparative law
  • Law reform
  • Legal institutions and governance
  • Legal theory
  • National security and terrorism
  • Private law, including contracts, equity, law of obligations and torts.
In addition, interdisciplinary collaboration is a significant feature of the Faculty’s work, involving academic staff from other faculties and drawing on the Faculty’s own staff with doctorates in psychology, sociology, anthropology, history and economics, as well as in law.
