Description The study of Public Health covers all aspects of public health and health systems. It focuses upon primary care and community medicine, aged and extended care, international health, clinical governance, health informatics, indigenous health, multicultural health, training and education of health professionals, equity, health promotion and physical fitness, HIV/AIDS and drugs and alcohol, and ethics, amongst other areas.
Public Health may include study in epidemiology, quantitative and qualitative research methods, health services management, health promotion, development and education in health, as well as a systematic review of topical public health issues. It is designed to address the continuing education needs of specialists in public health as well as providing a general orientation to public health issues and methods for the health professions. Studying Public Health at UNSW Although courses relevant to Public Health are incorporated in the undergraduate medicine programs at UNSW, Public Health is primarily a postgraduate area of specialisation. The School of Public Health and Community Medicine (http://sphcm.med.unsw.edu.au) offers various coursework programs in Public Health, including the Master of Public Health program. Postgraduate research opportunities are also available.
