Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence
Program Description
The Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence (MIDI) is essential for a career in health emergencies, outbreaks, infectious diseases risk assessment and emergency response related to infectious diseases and other threats. This program is designed for relevant stakeholders from any sector, who wish to gain a better understanding of infectious diseases intelligence in the era of new and emerging disease threats, and management approaches for the identification, assessment, prevention and control of infectious diseases. Students will be exposed to the perspectives of different stakeholders and sectors working in infectious diseases. The course will be run in dual internal and online modes during summer school.
Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes
The MIDI provides students with advanced disciplinary knowledge and skills in infectious diseases prevention and control in a range of settings including in emergencies, as well as risk assessment, surveillance and related roles in government, community and health service settings in Australia and internationally. The program fosters sophisticated understanding and application across a complex body of multidisciplinary knowledge including infectious diseases intelligence, outbreak investigation, immunisation and tropical disease control. Graduates are equipped with the specialised skills needed for professional practice in control of infectious diseases and emergencies across a range of contexts including ministries and departments of health, government organisations, non-government and voluntary organisations, and primary care and community healthcare services in both public and private sectors. The program fosters judgment-ready practitioners who can contribute to improving population health outcomes specific to infectious diseases in diverse settings.
Program Structure
The Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence program comprises the following components, for a total of 48 units of credit:

You can complete these courses either face to face or by distance but please note that International students are only permitted to complete 25% of their degree by distance. - PHCM9100 Academic Practice (0 UOC)
This course is available for all students to assist them with academic literacy practice and includes critical reading, thinking and writing, oral communication and managing postgraduate study. The course is made available at no charge to students and does not contribute to the program requirements of the degree. Local students who have not studied recently are also welcome to enrol to assist them with the transition back to university and to assist them with their academic skills.

Articulation
Students who have completed requirements for the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases Intelligence will be able to transfer to the Master in Infectious Diseases with full credit for completed courses subject to time-elapsed rules consistent with the UNSW Policy on Recognition of Prior Learning.
Students may exit the Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence early to graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Infectious Diseases Intelligence (24 UOC) or a Graduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases Intelligence (36 UOC) if they have met the minimum requirements for these degrees.
Students who have completed requirements for the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases Intelligence will be able to transfer to the Master in Infectious Diseases with full credit for completed courses subject to time-elapsed rules consistent with the UNSW Policy on Recognition of Prior Learning.
Students may exit the Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence early to graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Infectious Diseases Intelligence (24 UOC) or a Graduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases Intelligence (36 UOC) if they have met the minimum requirements for these degrees.

Admission Requirements
Applicants are required to have either:
- An undergraduate degree in a field relevant to public health or health management (see list below)* and two years full-time professional or volunteer experience. This may also include equivalent professional experience acquired as part of a degree of 4 or more years duration (e.g. MBBS, MD)
OR
- An undergraduate degree plus an honours or postgraduate degree in a field relevant to public health or health management (see list below)*

The Infectious Diseases Intelligence programs are part of the PLuS Alliance, a new international university partnership between UNSW, Arizona State University and King's College London.
